The school has improved the percentage of students getting five GCSEs at A*-C grade by 36 per cent - from 44 per cent to 80 per cent - with three years of continuous improvement, the first of which was 2008. The school expects this figure to rise even further this year to about 90 per cent, according to data gathered so far and grades already awarded.
Deputy Principal Richard Briggs said: "The improvement we are on course to make this year will finally put us in line with the national average, at which point we can begin to move forward."We will be an outstanding academy and this award recognises that we are on our way to the academic success that we are striving for our pupils to achieve."
As well as this, Ofsted inspectors made a monitoring check on Wednesday to rate the school's progress since the last inspection and its capacity for continuous improvement. It rated them as "good" in both categories where the rating can be either poor, satisfactory, good or outstanding.
The school is also making attempts to steer those capable towards a more academic path in preparation for the Government's proposed scheme to introduce the English Baccalaureate Scheme, in which students must all study English, maths, science, one language and one humanities subject. Mr Briggs said: "We want to provide a broad and balanced education that allows students to personalise and achieve in their strongest areas.
"Having said that, those who are more academic we are trying to steer towards subjects that can put them in a good position for university."
The school has received the award for improvements that measure students' best five subjects at GCSE.
Mr Briggs accepted the award at a black-tie event at the London School Of Physicians. The school has also improved the percentage of students getting five GCSEs - including Maths and English - at A*-C grade from 14 per cent to 39 per cent and expects this to improve to 50 per cent this year.
Mr Rowlands, Oasis Academy: Immingham's newly appointed Principal, said: "We are making good progress, becoming an academy that the whole community deserves and can be proud of."
