The contractor's get involved with students & staff
Gleeson Building, the contractors for the new Academy, have been doing what they can to get involved with the students and staff, and make the most of their time on site.
Vision Panels
They have incorporated vision panels into the hoarding around the site to enable students and staff to watch the building work. Photos are regularly being taken by students so that the progress of the building works can be recorded, and vision panels add to the viewing capacity.
Health & Safety Awareness
Gleeson’s ran a Health & Safety awareness induction for Year 7 students, followed by a test to see how much they had learned. Of the 145 students involved in the presentation, over 87 (60%) achieved scores expected by Gleeson’s workforce and 14 students (10%) achieved the maximum score!
Learning Opportunities
In addition to these, Gleeson’s met with Academy teaching staff to discuss potential learning opportunities arising during the building works. Capita Architecture and Symonds offered a presentation to demonstrate the development of the Academy design, from concept stage and the design process used through to final design approval. It is hoped the landscape architects will do a similar presentation specifically about the green and brown roofs and the environmental considerations in the design.
