The Oasis Community Learning (OCL) family of academies are split into five regions of England – London and the South East, the South Coast, the Midlands, the South West and the North.
Each Academy ensures local governance through a Hub Council, whilst national governance is delivered through the OCL National Office, and Regional Directors (RDs).
Each region is supported by at least one RD who is accountable to the CEO of OCL, and accountable for the Principals of academies in their region.
The job of a Regional Director is to:
- Oversee regional delivery of education, including standards and leadership as well as performance outcomes
- Ensure professional governance across all Academies in their region
- Monitor Academy budgets and escalations
- Monitor and escalate high risk HR cases, IT services issues, property and estates, new business and capital project issues
- Monitor, audit and intervene on safeguarding issues and health and safety issues
The Regional Director for Secondary academies within the North region is Jane Hughes.
Jane joined Oasis in 2020 as Regional Director for the Northern Secondary Academies. She has twenty-five years' experience teaching and leading in mainstream and special schools. Before joining Oasis, she was Headteacher of an over-subscribed all-age special school for children with complex needs and moderate learning difficulties. She was a National Leader of Education, supporting mainstream primary and secondary schools. In her previous roles, she has been heavily involved with curriculum development in both England and Wales in schools in a range of contexts from inner city comprehensives to rural schools. She was successful in improving attainment at KS4 and 5 in all the schools she was worked in and in improving access for 6th formers to top universities.
Jane has a particular interest in holistic and inclusive education, with expertise in this area gleaned from working across the full spectrum of needs within the school system. She has a detailed understanding of SEND as well as in meeting the needs of gifted and talented pupils. She believes that schools operate within and for the benefit of the communities they serve. She is passionate about ensuring children have the opportunity to achieve their potential in all senses and providing a well-rounded and aspirational education for all.
