Home Learning
At Oasis Academy Immingham all students are set home learning appropriate to their age and ability. The curriculum that a student follows should be reflected in the home learning that a student is given and should extend the student’s prior learning as well as recap and consolidate what has already been taught in the curriculum.
We know that evidence shows us that on average a student who completes their home learning over a year makes 5+ months ore progress than a student who doesn’t.
Home learning is work that is set to be done outside the timetabled curriculum. It contains an element of study in that it is not usually directly supervised by a teacher. However not all home learning is done at home. For some students who find it hard to work at home, or for some tasks which may require resources (books, software, equipment) more readily available at the academy, it is necessary or desirable to carry out the task at the academy. We have quiet spaces in the academy, including the library where students can use the space to complete their home learning.
As a guide we set home learning following this schedule
- Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9): Students should expect approximately ½ -1 hour of home learning per evening, with tasks set across various subjects. Home learning will be assigned at least once per week for each core subject of English, Maths and Science and once per fortnight for History, Geography and French. Other KS3 subjects will set home learning appropriately.
- Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11): Students should expect approximately 1-1.5 hours of home learning per evening, with more frequent and varied tasks in preparation for their GCSEs. Home learning will be assigned regularly for each subject, including option subjects. As a guide it will be assigned at least once per week for each core subject of English, Maths and Science and once per fortnight for Ebacc subjects of Humanities/French.
