Y10 Phased Opening

I am pleased to be writing to you today with further details on the preparations we are making for the gradual return of our Year 10 students from next week. As a team, we are keen to welcome your child back to school safely.

Our number one priority is the safety of your child, your family and of our staff. We have worked hard to ensure that we meet the Government guidelines for reopening and in some places, we are pleased to say that we exceed those guidelines. Since the lock down began, we have remained open to provide childcare for the children of key workers and other eligible students and in doing so we have demonstrated therefore that with care and sensible planning and strong teamwork, your child is safe in our care.

We are only able to re-open the academy for those Year 10 students not currently attending if the Government and the medical experts continue to confirm that it is safe to do. Should the Public Health Authority indicate otherwise (with any change in the R factor) we will take immediate action to close the academy. The details below set out the arrangements we have put in place to ensure as high a degree of safety as possible.

All students attending the Academy have been placed into small groups, which they will stay in throughout the school day. This will help control the virus and help to keep everybody safe. Each group will have an assigned start and finish time for the day (please see below for your child’s start and finish time).

You have been assigned a group. Check which group you are in and the dates you are expected in school:

Students will arrive and exit the Academy via the front main entrance to the building. Your child should line up outside on the corresponding colour circle ensuring that social distancing is maintained. If you child is unable to attend the Academy for any reason, please contact the school using the normal absence procedure.

The school day will focus on three, 1 ½ hour lessons compromising of English, Maths, Science, and Humanities. Each lesson will be separated by an extended break for students. During this time students will be provided with hot food and drinks. (Therefore, your child should not bring any food or drink into school with them).

It is essential that when attending school, your child displays excellent attendance, behaviour and hard work, which all coincide with our Academy REACH values. In addition to this it is pivotal that your child adheres to social distancing guidelines by always following the 2-metre rule. This will help to protect staff and students present in the Academy. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in your child being sent home.

Your child should attend school either wearing the Academy PE kit or the Academy Grey trousers, white shirt and school shoes. In addition, all equipment will be provided for every lesson so your child should not bring any equipment in to the school building, including school bags, pens, pencils rulers etc.

There is a lot of information here, but I wanted you to have the full detail of what we are doing to make the Academy safe and welcoming for our students. While it will be a little different to normal, we will of course take the time to ensure all our young people understand the changes when we welcome them back.

If you have any questions regarding your child returning to the Academy, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
