‘Peace and solidarity’ staff member produces sunflower badges to raise much needed funds for the Ukraine appeal

At Oasis Academy Immingham we have been doing all we can to support families in need who are fleeing the devastation in Ukraine.

Our teaching assistant, Jo Vollans came up with the Sunflowers of Support (SOS) in a bid to raise much needed funds.

Each badge is on sale for £2 with every penny going towards the Oasis Charitable Trust Ukraine Aid Appeal via JustGiving. In total we have so far raised a total of £110.

Jo Vollans, Teaching Assistant at Oasis Academy Immingham commented saying; “The sunflower is the national flower for the Ukraine, it symbolises peace and solidarity. The idea to make them originated from social media. All sewers and crafters globally, have designed sunflowers to make at home to sell and raise funds for the Ukraine refugees.”

The sunflower Jo chose to make, is made with an embroidery machine. They are made in two parts with the petals being made first then the decorative centre which represents the seeds of the flower, both sections are fully made from felt.

Jo continues to say she is “Willing to make as many as I can to raise funds for such a good cause.”

We're part of the Oasis Charitable Trust family who have jointly so far raised over £35,000 since the war began between Russia and Ukraine. Are you able to donate? You can do so by visiting their JustGiving page: www.justgiving.com/campaign/OasisUkraine.
