‘Pupils feel safe and well cared for’ – A local inclusive secondary school in the heart of North East Lincolnshire has been praised by school inspectors Ofsted after receiving a glowing report.
Staff, students, and parents at Oasis Academy Immingham, situated on Pelham Road, Immingham are celebrating as they continue to be a ‘Good’ school in all areas.
Highlights from the report include:
- “Pupils learn the importance of respect, and this is clear in the way they behave.”
- “Leaders set high standards for pupils in all aspects of school life.”
- “Leaders have a clear vision for the curriculum.”
- “Pupils receive teaching in a broad range of subjects in key stage 3.”
- “No stone is left unturned to keep pupils safe.”
- “Leaders ensure the curriculum goes well beyond the academic.”
Oasis Academy Immingham was previously inspected in April 2016 which is when it was graded to be ‘Good’ in all areas.
Since their last report, in the last five years Ofsted have praised Oasis Academy Immingham within the report saying; “The support provided for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is effective. These pupils study the same curriculum as everyone else. Leaders provide teachers with up-to-date information on the needs of individual pupils. In mainstream lessons, teachers use this information to make the adjustments that pupils need.”
Taking a look at the curriculum within the academy, Ofsted continue to say; “Leaders have a clear vision for the curriculum. They ensure the curriculum caters for pupils’ academic and personal development. Pupils receive teaching in a broad range of subjects in key stage 3. Curriculum planned in each subject includes all the knowledge set out in the national curriculum.”
Sara McLoughlin, Principal at Oasis Academy Immingham, commented on the glowing report saying; “I am exceptionally proud of this report and would like to thank the students, staff, parents and members of the community who over the years have supported us on our continued journey to provide amazing education to the young people in our care.”
“We are particularly pleased that inspectors praised the opportunities we provide and support we offer through the rich and broad curriculum.”
Looking at safeguarding measures in the academy, Ofsted said “Keeping pupils safe is the top priority in this school. The school has a culture of vigilance. Leaders ensure that all staff are well trained. As a result, they understand a wide range of potential risks, including county lines, domestic violence and peer on peer abuse.”
